Seth Rogen Comedy Flarsky Moves Up to Summer 2019

Seth Rogen comedy Flarsky moves up to summer 2019

Test audiences apparently went wild for the Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen comedy Flarsky, causing Lionsgate to move the picture to a prime summer release, according to Variety. The film will now open on June 7, 2019 directly against The Secret Life of Pets 2 and in-between the sequel Godzilla: King of the Monsters on May 31 and the Men in Black reboot starring Chris Hemsworth on June 14.

Originally, the film was set to premiere on February 8, but test audiences evidently compared the film favorably to Rogen’s earlier smash-hit comedy Knocked Up and awarded it scores above 95%. Obviously, the studio senses box office potential and decided to position the film in the same slot that helped Ocean’s 8 score $138 million domestically this summer. Lionsgate is also looking to strike a first-look deal with Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Point Grey Pictures for both film and television projects.

In the movie, Fred Flarsky (Seth Rogen), an unemployed journalist battered by his own misfortune, endeavors to pursue his childhood crush and babysitter who now happens to be one of the most powerful and unattainable women on the planet (Charlize Theron).

The Interview‘s Dan Sterling wrote the script. Jonathan Levine, who previously worked with Rogen on 50/50 and The Night Before, directed.

Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen’s Comedy ‘Flarsky’ Gets a Summer 2019 Release Date

Previously slated for a February 8, 2019 release, the Lionsgate comedy Flarsky, fronted by Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron, will now move into a Summer 2019 slot. The move reportedly comes from strong test screenings, though that’s certainly an interesting way to phrase a release-date delay of four months. From 2014 to 2017, the top box office spot for the early weekend frame in February has been an animated kids movie (except for this year’s Fifty Shades Freed, you horndogs). Lionsgate also probably didn’t want their live-action comedy going up against Warner Bros. animated sequel The LEGO Movie 2, which is sure to repeat the box-office crown earned by its predecessor in 2014. Good move, Lionsgate.

As Variety reports, Flarsky will now open on June 7, 2019. That weekend may have played well for Ocean’s 8 this year, but in 2019, Flarsky will run headlong into competition with yet another animated family-friendly sequel, The Secret Life of Pets 2. (Currently on the schedule are Fox’s Gambit picture and Untitled Fox/Marvel Film I, but we’re gonna go ahead and guess that neither of those films–which might be two names of the same flick–will actually make that date.) So, maybe not such a good move? The studio is banking on the movie’s 95+% audience test screenings, which compared the movie to Rogen’s 2007 hit Knocked Up, as a box-office indicator, so that’s worth a roll of the dice, I guess.

As for the film itself:

“Rogen stars as Fred Flarsky, a down on his luck journalist, who through a string of comedic circumstances catches the attention of the world’s most powerful woman, Charlotte Field, (Theron). Much to the chagrin of her handlers, he becomes an important part of her inner circle in her globe-trotting journey to become the first female president of the United States.”

Jonathan Levine (50/50) directs, re-teaming Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver of Point Grey with Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chairman Joe Drake and Lionsgate Motion Picture Group president Nathan Kahane; their previous collaborations include Neighbors, This Is the End and 50/50.

Liam Neeson Snowplow Action Pic ‘Hard Powder’ To Make Trails This Winter; Charlize Theron-Seth Rogen Comedy ‘Flarsky’ Heads To Summer

Lionsgate/Summit’s Liam Neeson action pic Hard Powder will be opening on on Feb. 8 next year, per the studio.

In the movie directed by Hans Petter Moland, Neeson plays Nels Coxman, a local snowplow operator recently named Citizen of the Year of his small Colorado ski town for keeping the roads open through the winter. Nels’ quiet life with his wife (Laura Dern) abruptly spins out of control when their son is unjustly murdered by a local drug cartel. Taking the law into his own hands with only the tools of an outdoorsman and snowplow driver, Nels sets out to find those responsible but inadvertently ignites a gang war that threatens to engulf the town- unless he ends it first.

Neeson’s previous movie with Lionsgate, the StudioCanal production The Commuter, which was part of a distribution deal, grossed $36.3M stateside, close to $120M worldwide. Hard Powder will serve as great older male counterprogramming, facing off against Warner Bros.’ The Lego Movie 2 and Orion’s The Prodigy.

Originally dated for Feb. 8 was the Seth Rogen-Charlize Theron comedy Flarsky which Lionsgate took global distribution rights on in March 2017. That pic has now been pushed to June 7 going up against Fox/Marvel’s Gambit and Illumination/Universal’s The Secret Life of Pets 2. Flarsky, written by The Interview‘s Dan Sterling and directed by Jonathan Levine, centers on an unemployed journalist (Rogen), battered by his own misfortune and self-destructive ways, who endeavors to pursue his childhood crush and babysitter who now happens to be one of the most powerful and unattainable women on Earth (Theron).

Seth Rogen Comedy ‘Flarsky’ Casts Andy Serkis as a Human Male

Posted on Wednesday, November 22nd, 2017 by Ben Pearson

Andy Serkis has built his career on stellar performance-capture work in memorable movies like The Lord of the Rings trilogy and the new Planet of the Apes movies, and now he’s been cast in one of his most challenging roles yet: a human male.

Serkis, who has obviously played humans before in movies like The Prestige and Avengers: Age of Ultron, has been added to the cast of a major Hollywood comedy: a Seth Rogen-starrer for Lionsgate called Flarsky. Read on for more about who he’ll play.

Flarsky, which was on The Black List of Hollywood’s best unproduced screenplays all the way back in 2011, is finally coming to the big screen. Described as a “dark comedy,” the film stars Rogen as Fred Flarsky, a down-and-out political journalist who decides to pursue his childhood crush on his then-babysitter, who is now the Secretary of State. Charlize Theron, who headlined a comedy of her own with Young Adult a few years back, will play the object of Rogen’s affection. The Hollywood Reporter says Serkis will play “an international media mogul who employs Rogen’s character.”

Jokes aside, as happy as I am to see Serkis disappear under pixels in his often-epic performance-capture work, I’m always thrilled to see the “real” version of him show up in a live-action movie. It’s clear he enjoys losing himself in characters and challenges that are completely alien to “normal” behavior, and it’s clear we need people like him on the front lines of that evolving technology, but I regularly find myself thinking that he holds a reservoir of untapped potential that directors could utilize if he were cast in more projects. It sounds like Flarsky director Jonathan Levine and I are on the same page, and the concept of seeing Serkis in a mainstream comedy is especially enticing.

June Diane Raphael (Grace and Frankie) and Ravi Patel (Master of None) were also just cast as staffers who work for Theron’s character, and O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton) is also on board as an unknown character. St the very least, the cast here is pretty solid. Now we just have to see if this is closer to Levine movies like 50/50 and The Night Before, or if it leans more toward his most recent comedy, Snatched. Hopefully Flarsky will provide a nice opportunity to bounce back.

Meanwhile, Serkis will appear as Supreme Leader Snoke in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and he’s still in post-production on his directorial effort The Jungle Book: Origins, which was originally set to be released in 2016.

Flarsky hits theaters on February 8, 2019.

Seth Rogen, Charlize Theron comedy Flarsky gets 2019 release date

Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron are going to hit the big screen again in 2019. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate and Summit have set a Feb. 8, 2019 release date for the duo’s upcoming comedy Flarsky. The film’s new release date puts it up against The LEGO Movie 2 and Sony’s superhero flick Silver and Black.

The film stars Rogen as an out of work journalist named Fred Flarsky who, constantly dealing with his own bad luck and self-destructive ways, decides that he’s going to finally go after his former childhood babysitter (and crush), played by Theron. The only problem? She has since become one of the most powerful and unattainable women in the world. The film is set to be directed by Warm Bodies‘ Jonathan Levine based on a Black List script by Dan Sterling (The Interview).

Rogen has a lot of projects set up both in front of and behind the camera. They include the Hulu sci-fi series Future Man, which he executive produces, and a Damon Wayans Jr.- starring artificial intelligence comedy for FX. Rogen is also working with the Lonely Island on a movie about a musical festival gone wrong (think Frye Festival), and he has roles in James Franco’s upcoming Room biopic The Disaster Artist and in Disney’s live-action The Lion King remake.

Theron, meanwhile, is set to make a guest appearance on Seth MacFarlane’s Star Trek parody series The Orville. Her upcoming film roles include a part in the dark comedy Gringo, also starring David Oyelowo and Amanda Seyfried, and the title role in the comedy Tully, in which Theron plays a mother of three who forms a unique bond with her night nanny. Theron is also set to executive produce the upcoming Netflix drama Mindhunter.

Rogen is set to produce Flarsky alongside Evan Goldberg and James Weaver of Point Grey, with Alex McAtee overseeing. Theron will also produce through Denver and Delilah, alongside Beth Kono and A.J. Dix. Sterling will be an executive producer through Good Universe alongside Nathan Kahane and Joe Drake, while Erin Westerman will oversee for the company.

Production on Flarsky is set to begin in the fall.

Keanu Reeves’ Top 5 Films

Keanu Reeves has had an interesting career. His films have generally been really good, or really bad, with not a lot of grey area. This Friday his latest film, Replicas is released, and the trailer makes it look like it could be one of the really good films. Here are the top five films of his though that you don’t want to miss.

Bill Ted’s Excellent Adventure: Keanu had been around for a few years before this hit 1989 film, but it was the role of the time-travelling teenager Ted that really got him noticed by fans. The film spawned a sequel, and a third film has been rumoured for years.

My Own Private Idaho: Adapting Shakespeare’s Henry IV into a film about two friends who become male prostitutes is no easy feat, yet Keanu proved he was up to the challenge. He starred alongside River Phoenix in this Gus Van Sant film.

Speed: Keanu proved that he could do more than drama and comedy with 1991’s Point Break, but it was in 1994’s Speed that he really took off. In it he was teamed with Sandra Bullock for the first time, which was another hit with audiences as well, and in it he played a heroic cop who was trying to stop a mad bomber before he killed a bus full of people.

The Matrix: You simply can’t make a list of Keanu films without mentioning The Matrix. The hit film had two sequels, and had some of the most revolutionary special effects ever seen on the big screen at that point. The film about a computer hacker who learns the life he is leading is a lie was so popular that they’ve already talked about rebooting it.

John Wick: Proving that even mindless action with limited plot can still sell a lot of tickets, Keanu’s latest action film series really defies common sense. It’s violent, it’s bloody, and there is no way even the best hitman in the world could survive what Keanu’s character survives in this film, yet it works and is a lot of fun. The sequel was just as entertaining, and the third film in the franchise is due out next year.

The Happytime Murders And Other Films Not Made For Kids

You’d think a movie starring puppets would be high on your list of films to take your children to, but if you did, not only would people look at your funny, but hopefully the theatre staff would be turning you away at the door without you having bought a ticket. After all the film by Brian Henson (yes, the son of The Muppets creator Jim Henson) is raunchy, crude and just about everything you don’t want a children’s movie to be. It’s not the first time a movie that looks like it should be a children’s movie, isn’t a children’s movie though. Here are the best of them.

Sausage Party: This 2016 animated film by Seth Rogen appears to be a lovable film about food living their lives in harmony in a supermarket as they look forward to being taken home by humans. It very quickly turns into something more than that though, and something you definitely don’t want your children to see. The food, including a sausage and a bun, discover the truth about their existence, which isn’t at all what they thought it was. The film is full of sexual innuendo, swearing and even drug use.

South Park: Bigger, Longer Uncut: If you don’t know about South Park by now, you have to have been living under a rock for the last 20 years. On one hand it’s a crudely animated series about four school children living in a small Colorado community. On the other it’s a social commentary that places these children in very over the top situations. The film, which came out in 1999, is exactly what the title says, in that it takes the TV series and goes even further with it. Expect everything from blood, gore, swearing, and even sex. What’s even more shocking though is that the series is still going on.

Fritz the Cat: You might be thinking, what’s more adorable that a cartoon cat? Well, this controversial cartoon from 1972 doesn’t deserve your adoration. This cartoon made for adults is based on the character created by Robert Crumb, and follows the story of a sex-obsessed cat making his way through 1960s subculture. The film was very controversial for its time, although compared to some of the other items on this list it’s much tamer than expected.

Team America: World Police: From the guys that brought you South Park, comes this violent, bloody and odd film featuring puppets. It focuses on a counter terrorism team that are trying to prevent the world from crumbling down around them.

Eight Crazy Nights: While holiday movies are always a hit for families, this one by Adam Sandler may not be appropriate for everyone. It’s full of crude, sexual humor, and since the lead character played by Adam Sandler is an alcoholic, there is a fair bit of drinking as well. It’s pretty tame in a lot of respects, and most of the jokes will probably go right over your kids heads, but they were never the intended audience. If you’ve ever an Adam Sandler film in the past, you will have a pretty good idea of what this one is like as well.

Seth Rogen And Charlize Theron’s New Comedy Flarsky Set To Open Next Summer

While he’s constantly in the public eye and releasing new films every year, it’s been awhile since Seth Rogen has had a bit enough hit to be considered for opening the summer season. His last really big hit was 2014’s Neighbors and before that you might have to go all the way back to 2007’s Knocked Up. He has had some middle of the ground hits along the way as well though. Thanks to some strong test screenings, Rogen’s new comedy Flarsky might just be another of those big hits.

Flarsky was originally set to open in February of next year, but the film has been making the rounds with a few test screenings, and word is the film has the potential to be a huge hit. Not wanting to waste the film with an early opening, Lionsgate has decided to move the film to June 7, 2019, which would make it one of the summer opening films. It might even be good enough to be considered the comedy of the summer. Some audiences have even been comparing the film to Rogen’s biggest hit, Knocked Up.

Flarsky stars Rogen as Fred Flarsky, a journalist who has fallen on hard times. Luckily for him though his luck is about to change, and after accidentally catching the eye of the world’s most powerful woman named Charlotte Field (Charlize Theron), he becomes a big part of her inner circle as she tries to become the first female president of the United States.

Ariana Grande And James Corden Re-enact Titanic Musically

It’s hard to believe James Corden has only been hosting The Late Late Show since 2015. After all he’s already put a stamp on not only the show, but pop culture, with his comedic genius, including his catchy Carpool Karaoke segments. Last night he had Ariana Grande on his show to help him re-enact the love story of Jack and Rose from the 1997 film Titanic, and it was nothing short of amazing.

Grande and Corden sang a medley of 13 pop songs for the skit, which of course ended with Celine Dion’s power ballad My Heart will Go On. Other songs included were Styx’s Come Sail Away, Hall Oates’ Rich Girl, Timbaland’s The Way I Are, Foo Fighters’ Learn To Fly, Just Dance by Lady Gaga, Steal My Girl by One Direction, Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You, Nelly’s Ride Wit Me, Vanilla Ice’s Ice Ice Baby, Timber by Pitbull and Ke$ha, Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley and NSYNC’s Bye Bye Bye.

The 1997 Oscar winning film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet never looked so good, and word from CBS is that the entire segment was shot in one take. Now that’s impressive.

Grande turned heads when she appeared on Carpool Karaoke in 2017, and she’s set to appear on the segment for a second time on Wednesday. She is of course promoting her new album Sweetener, which is due to be released this Friday.
