Quentin Tarantino and Tom Hardy Excite at CinemaCon, But Sony’s 2018 Slate Feels Oddly Familiar

Sony would like you to know it’s committed to originality. That was the message reiterated by its executives at the studio’s CinemaCon presentation Monday night — and no one was more passionate than chairman Tom Rothman, who spoke of the studio’s “increasing dedication” and “commitment” to the concept.

However, Rothman presided over a show-and-tell that included Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly doing their “Step Brothers” schtick in “Holmes and Watson” as Sherlock Holmes and Mr. Watson (tagline: “The World’s Greatest Dicks”); “Hotel Transylvania 3,” Goosebumps: Haunted Halloween,” “Equalizer 2,” “Sicario 2,” “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” Marvel’s “Venom,” remakes of “Superfly” and “Miss Bala,” “The Girl in the Spider’s Web,” and teasing mentions of 2019 titles “Men in Black 3,” the still-untitled “Spider-Man: Homecoming” sequel, and “Jumanji 2.”

Millie Bobby Brown To Play Sherlock’s Sister Enola Homes In New Film Series

  • We Got This Covered

Thanks to her brilliant performance as the super-powered Eleven in Netflix’s Stranger Things, Millie Bobby Brown‘s career is set to go through the roof. Her first big step onto the silver screen will come in the form of her as-yet-unknown role in the upcoming Godzilla: King of the Monsters, but that’s just the beginning, as Brown has now landed herself the lead in a new planned film franchise.

Deadline is reporting that Legendary Entertainment are developing a movie series based on the Enola Holmes Mysteries books from author Nancy Springer. As you can probably guess from the surname, Enola is the teenage sister of Sherlock Holmes and shares his knack for solving crimes.

Deadline describes the series as follows:

“The book series began with the 2006 title The Case of the Missing Marquess. The series spans six novels, revolving around mysteries investigated by Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes’ much younger sister,

Back in 2016 it was announced that dynamic comedy duo Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly would reunite for the first time since Step Brothers (2008), as Holmes and Watson.

Holmes and Watson is set to take on the sleuth in a whole new, comedic light. With Etan Cohen in the Director’s chair (Get Hard, Men in Black 3) and our long lost duo in the title roles, we can only imagine the pandemonium that will ensue as this project develops.

The film is currently on location in Greenwich, home of time and frequent location choice for various period productions; not forgetting the occasional superhero film, such as Thor: The Dark World (2013). This is not the first rodeo for Greenwich University and the Royal Naval College as far as Holmes adaptations are concerned, oh no, Sherlock Holmes a Game of Shadows (2011) was also shot here.

Two men that you would expect to see in a film centered around Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson have been cast in a film that has already cast two odd actors for the lead roles. Ralph Fiennes and Hugh Laurie will appear alongside Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly in Holmes And Watson (via THR).

Considering its two lead actors, I highly doubt this film will be steeped in the drama that the detective novels and series have typically been associated with. That said, adding two U.K. names like Laurie and Fiennes has to strike a nerve for fans who have always wanted to see the noted actors in the famous roles. Considering we know very little about the project, including the roles of the two recently cast actors, I guess I shouldn’t jump to conclusions.

Details of Fiennes and Laurie’s characters are being kept under wraps, but the site reports that the duo “will slip on the shoes of two beloved characters from the Holmes oeuvre”.

The film sees Ferrell as Arthur Conan Doyle’s master detective Sherlock Holmes, with Reilly as his sidekick Dr. John Watson. Also featuring in the cast are Rebecca Hall (Christine), Rob Brydon (The Huntsman: Winter’s War), Kelly Macdonald (Brave) and Lauren Lapkus (Jurassic World).

Ensuring that there’s at least a bit of authentic, Grade-a Great Britain in Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly’s upcoming Holmes And Watson, Variety reports that certified British people Ralph Fiennes and Hugh Laurie have both joined the comedy’s cast. It’s not clear what roles the two actors will be playing, although it’s easy to imagine any number of contrasting scenarios between their quiet English dignity, and Ferrell and Reilly’s bumbling stabs at detection. (To be fair, we don’t know that the two actors will be playing the famous literary detectives as dim-witted goofballs, but it seems like a pretty safe deduction to make.)

Fiennes—who plays stalwart butler Alfred in the upcoming Lego Batman—hasn’t had an on-camera role since last year’s Hail, Caesar!, when he co-starred in our favorite movie scene of 2016. Laurie, meanwhile, has been spending his .

Details of their characters are being kept under wraps by Sony, which unveiled the project in August. The movie will represent the third collaboration between Ferrell and Reilly following 2006’s “Talladega Nights” and 2008’s “Step Brothers.”

The film will be produced by Mosaic and Gary Sanchez. Etan Cohen will direct from his own script about a duo that faces off against enemies from across the globe.

Warner Bros. saw solid box office results from its two dramatic “Sherlock Holmes” movies in 2009 and 2011, with Robert Downey Jr. starring as Holmes and Jude Law as Watson. Both grossed more than $500 million worldwide.

THR stopped short of disclosing the exact specifics of their roles, but word is that Laurie and Fiennes will be portraying two key figures from the Holmes portfolio – Moriarty and Mycroft, perhaps? What we do know for sure is that Holmes and Watson will herald a new collaboration between Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly. Holmes and Watson

The Holmes and Watson film is a humorous take on Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic mysteries featuring Will Ferrell as Sherlock Holmes, and John C. Reilly as Doctor Watson.

The director of the film Holmes and Watson, Etan Cohen, should not be confused with the Oscar winning director Ethan Coen. Etan Cohen has only directed one previous film, to date, Get Hard, where he got to know Will Ferrell. Ethan Coen is responsible, with his brother, Joel, for the Oscar winning movies Fargo, No Country For Old Men and the Oscar nominated remake of True Grit.

Holmes and Watson is being written and directed by Etan Cohen, who helmed Ferrell in the recent comedy Get Hard.

We first heard about Holmes and Watson back in 2008. At the time, it was going to star Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen, but the comedy fell to the wayside, and we instead got two Sherlock Holmes movies from Guy Ritchie. The musical was revived last summer with Ferrell still onboard but with Cohen out. Etan Cohen‘s (Get Hard) film now […]

Sherlock Holmes was created by British author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and was the protagonist in four novels and 56 short stories between 1887 and 1927. Basil Rathbone portrayed the detective in 14 movies between

Filming may already be underway on the London set of Holmes and Watson, Etan Cohen’s comedic spin on Arthur Conan Doyle’s legendary characters, but The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that The Night Manager‘s Hugh Laurie and Ralph Fiennes have now been cordially invited to 221b Baker Street.

Reilly. Together, they’ve stormed the circuit (Talladega Nights) and caused a full-blown family feud (Step Brothers) but this time around, Ferrell and Reilly will be headlining a much more light-hearted spin on the two famous sleuths. Also on board are Rob Brydon (Inspector Lestrade), Kelly Macdonald (Mrs.
