Deluxe has signed an agreement to acquire visual effects company Atomic Fiction, which has studios in Montreal and San Francisco.

The company will join Method Studios, Deluxe’s vfx brand, as part of a strategy to deepen the company’s talent base and capacity to take on the biggest and most challenging visual effects projects for features, episodic TV, advertising and brands.

Founded in 2010 by Kevin Baillie and Ryan Tudhope, Atomic Fiction has collaborated with director Robert Zemeckis on a number of projects, including “The Walk,” Allied” and the upcoming “Welcome to Marwen.”

The company also worked on the Oscar-winning effects of “Blade Runner 2049” (pictured); on Paramount’s “Star Trek Beyond”; Fox’s “Deadpool”; HBO’s “Games of Thrones”; and season 3 of Netflix’s “Stranger Things.”

“Throughout my career, I’ve always felt that it’s important to surround myself with the best of the best in their craft,

The terms of the deal, which is expected to close during Q3, were not disclosed.

Atomic Fiction was founded in 2010 by a couple of alums of Robert Zemeckis’ former Imagemovers Digital facility; since then, it has been Zemeckis’ go-to VFX house, working on his films The Walk, Flight, Allied and the upcoming Welcome to Marwen.

Steve Carell’s Upcoming Biopic Draws From an Emotional True Story

Over the course of his career, Steve Carell has taken on a gamut of different roles, from Dunder Mifflin’s offbeat salesman Michael Scott to a cartoon supervillain turned curmudgeonly dad. In his upcoming biopic, Welcome to Marwen, the actor inhabits the role of Mark Hogancamp, a man who builds a miniature town of dolls after nearly dying from a violent attack. And yes, Hogancamp’s real story is just as heartbreaking and full of resilience as one would imagine.

On April 8, 2000, five men beat Hogancamp outside of a bar in Kingston, NY, after he told them that he was a cross-dresser. The attack resulted in Hogancamp spending nine days in a coma and 40 days in the hospital. Along with post-traumatic stress disorder, he suffered brain damage that left him with little recall of his past life, which includes his experiences with homelessness, struggles with alcoholism, and past relationships. ‘Skyscraper’ Gets Chinese Boost at Box Office With $47 Million Opening

  • 22 July 2018
  • by Jeremy Fuster
  • The Wrap

After a lackluster domestic performance, Universal/Legendary’s “Skyscraper” got a Chinese boost, opening to a $47.7 million start in the lucrative territory this weekend to push the film to a $176.8 million global total.

Co-produced on a $120 million budget by the two studios, with Legendary handling Chinese distribution. “Skyscraper” has been a relative disappointment for its star, Dwayne Johnson, compared to his past films. After “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” grossed just under $1 billion worldwide, Johnson’s box office draw wasn’t able to win over audiences for “Skyscraper”‘s domestic release, earning a mediocre $25 million opening and a $46.7 million 10-day total.

As for the action thriller’s Chinese run, the jury is still out. Its $47 million launch is less than the $55 million made in that country by Johnson’s last film, “Rampage.” However,

‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’ Sends Universal Past $1B Mark At Domestic B.O.

Even though Universal’s original Abba sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again was unexpectedly beat by Sony’s Equalizer 2 for the No. 1 spot at the North American’s weekend box office, $35.8 million to $34.4 million, the Universal City studio can celebrate that its clicked past the $1 billion mark at the domestic box office today. It marks the lot’s eighth time in a row to eclipse the milestone.

Universal currently ranks second for the year behind Disney, which has amassed $2.55 billion off its Marvel, Star Wars and Pixar fare.

Overall this weekend, Universal titles took four spots in the box office’s top 10: Mamma Mia 2, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom ($11M), Skyscraper ($10.96M) and Blumhouse’s The First Purge ($4.98M), altogether grossing $61.3M and repping 36% of the weekend’s $169.1M ticket sales per ComScore.

And the critical darling of the summer is … “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again”? This sequel comes 10 years after the original “Mamma Mia!” film, which itself was adapted from the 1999 jukebox musical that brought the songs of Abba to the Broadway stage. No, it’s not a movie we’re likely to be talking about in the year-end awards conversation — except perhaps the Golden Globes, which adore musicals. But it does seem to have caught critics off-guard by actually improving on the original.

The 2008 “Mamma Mia!” was a huge hit, grossing $144 million domestically and a whopping $609 million worldwide against a mere $52 million budget. And it earned Golden Globe noms for Best Film Comedy/Musical and Best Film Comedy/Musical Actress (Meryl Streep). But it didn’t win over critics: it scored 51 on MetaCritic and had a rotten Tomatometer score of 54%.

Robert Zemeckis has revealed his thoughts on directing a Marvel or DC movie

  • 19 July 2018
  • by Samuel Brace
  • Flickeringmyth

Robert Zemeckis is one of the biggest names in directing but would he consider helming a Marvel or DC movie in the future?

Director of such classics as Back to the Future, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Forrest Gump, and Cast Away, Zemeckis is as accomplished as it gets. One of the biggest markets for directors these days is, of course, the superhero movie but would Zemeckis be interested in crafting a film in this space?

Speaking to BadTaste, the iconic director said he would be happy to be involved in such a movie, as long as he can put his own spin on things: “I would do any project… I don’t have any… you know, the projects that I’m attracted to are the ones that require the director’s vision. You know, the filmmaker’s own and personal artistic stamp. So yeah, if there’s room for that,

Oscars 2019: Universal Studios bags bragging rights to ‘First Man,’ ‘Green Book,’ ‘Welcome to Marwen’

Last year Universal brought the blockbuster “Get Out” to the Oscars where it prevailed with one of its four bids (Best Original Screenplay). This year, the studio has three strong contenders, one of which reunites “La La Land” writer/director Damien Chazelle with that film’s leading man Ryan Gosling.

They are making “First Man,” the first film to chronicle the life and times of Neil Armstrong, the astronaut who was the first to walk on the moon. It will take one small step for man and one giant leap into theaters on October 12, 2018, right in the midst of the fall awards season.

“La La Land” reaped a record-tying 14 Oscar bids in 2017 and won six including Best Director for Chazelle but infamously fell short of Best Picture in the envelope mix-up heard ’round the world. Gosling earned a Best Actor nomination, as he also did 10 years prior for his role

Welcome to Marwen Full Movie Watch Online & Free Download In HD

Eye to this. Robert Zemeckis already has a new job two years after failing with the underrated ‘Allies’, and the trailer is amazing. It is titled ‘Welcome to Marwen’ and is an adaptation to the critically acclaimed documentary ‘Marwencol’ by Jeff Malmberg. Universal will release the film on November 21, the same day as ‘Creed II’, whose trailer also appeared today.

Steve Carell gives life to the protagonist of this story based on real events, Mark Hogancamp, who suffers brain damage after receiving a beating. As therapy, Mark builds a miniature city set in World War II, where he puts friends, family and himself, participating in situations where he fanteasea with the life he would have wanted to take. Thanks to the magic of Hollywood in the hands of Zemeckis this seems like a dramatic and warlike version of ‘Toy Story’.

The cast is completed by Leslie Mann, Diane Kruger, Merritt Wever, Eiza Gonzalez, Gwendoline Christie, Janelle Monae, Neil Jackson and Leslie Zemeckis (director’s wife). The film is written by Caroline Thompson and Robert Zemeckis, based on the work done by Jeff Malmberg, who participates here as executive producer.

It should be noted that Thompson was a screenwriter of ‘Eduardo Manostijeras’, ‘Nightmare before Christmas’ or ‘The corpse bride’ so his collaboration with Zemeckis can give a lot of play. The current Zemeckis may be far from the one we fell in love with in the 80s and 90s but he has not lost his talent and is still able to amaze and excite us; This proposal, which mixes real action and animation, has the appearance of being ideal for this filmmaker, winner of the Oscar for the staging of ‘Forrest Gump’.

In a movie like this that is not at all about historicly accuracy i dont find the problem with women deffending him with rifles or whatever.
